This was a experiment in casting a subject in silicone and Grampy was the reluctent subject matter.I'm trying to cast my sculpts in a more lifelike appearance. I thought I might luck out with the air bubbles but did not,as you can see his ear came up shy.If I did this again I would find a silicone or resin with a longer set time and I would invest in a pressure pot. It was a very fun experiance,If any more experianced molders and caster have any suggestions please chime in. Thanks for takin a look.

This came out great! So this is a silicone cast? What did you make the mold with? What kind of set time did you see with a piece this size?

Great work!

For the molds I used Poly74-30 Rtv liqiud rubber and the set time on it was 12-24 hours and I used Platsil Gel-10 for the cast and you have 6 minute before it starts to gel and the demold time on it was 1 hour. It was a blast It was pretty to do I felt like a mad scientist!!

Looks like it came out well from the mold, are you happy with the end result?
:icontrilliantstudio:
very cool. It's good to know that it was fairly straight forward. That's encouraging. Thanks for passing on the info.

Kind Regards,
Joel

Well this was my third attempt and the lower ears kept coming up short of gel. This last one I left the mold apart and brushhed it in with a paint brush and then put it back together and poured the rest of the gel into the mold in a small stream to keep air bubbles at bay and it stopped the air bubbles around his forehead but for some reason it still left his ears short, but other than that I really like the end result its some pretty cool stuff.:D
